Ethereum's Road to New Highs: Two Paths to Watch Before the Cycle Top (Benjamin Cowen Youtube Summary)
As Ethereum navigates a pivotal phase in its market cycle, key indicators suggest we may be closing in on a significant breakout — or a final consolidation before the peak. Based on a deep technical analysis of historical patterns and current market signals, here’s what lies ahead for ETH.
Ethereum Has “Gone Home” — A Historical Turning Point
Ethereum has returned to its long-term regression band — often referred to as “going home.” Historically, this event marks a significant bottoming phase:
In prior cycles (2016, 2019, 2020), ETH rallied strongly after touching the regression band.
It often coincides with Ethereum bottoming against Bitcoin, a precursor to USD all-time highs.
The last “home” visit before the recent one was in early 2020, which preceded Ethereum’s explosive rally to new highs.
In April 2025, Ethereum again touched this zone, suggesting that the ETH/BTC bottom may already be in. If this holds true, Ethereum is positioned for another leg up.
Short-Term Weakness, Long-Term Strength
Historical seasonality points to potential short-term weakness:
August and September are typically volatile months, with temporary pullbacks common.
A dip to the bull market support band (~$2,400–$2,800 and rising) would be healthy and consistent with prior cycle patterns.
ETH/BTC could see a pullback to a higher low, dragging ETH/USD down briefly.
Despite potential short-term volatility, the macro view remains bullish.
Two Key Paths for Ethereum's Breakout
Ethereum is likely heading toward a market cycle top, but the exact path could follow one of two major scenarios:
1. Moderate Path (Tesla Blueprint)
ETH gets rejected soon (around $3,800–$3,900).
Pulls back to bull market support band.
Forms a higher low in September or October.
Breaks out to new highs late Q4.
Tops between $5,300–$6,000, in line with the butterfly harmonic pattern.
This would mirror Tesla’s 2023 price action, where it formed a macro higher low in April, then rallied, corrected, and broke out to a cycle top by December.
2. Aggressive Breakout Path
ETH breaks through resistance and hits $4,800 before the September dip.
Pulls back to $3,900–$4,000.
Uses that as support before another push higher.
Cycle top reaches $6,000–$7,500, exceeding prior highs.
This path requires strong August performance, possibly driven by Bitcoin staying green — as it often does in post-halving years.
Key Timeframes to Watch
Late August to October: Expect some consolidation or pullback. Watch for higher lows in both ETH/USD and ETH/BTC.
Early November: Historically when altcoin BTC pairs bottomed (e.g., in 2017). Could mark a breakout point for ETH.
By December 2025: A market cycle top is likely. If not by then, it may occur no later than January 2026.
2026: Ethereum likely returns to its regression band. Historically, this is where post-peak accumulation begins.
Final Thoughts
The structure is forming. Whether Ethereum first revisits the $2.8K–$3.2K range or pushes directly toward $4.8K, both paths point toward new all-time highs in the coming months.
Key levels to watch:
Resistance: $3,800–$3,900 short-term, $4,800 long-term.
Support: $2,400–$2,800 (bull market support band).
Cycle Top Targets: $5,300–$7,500 depending on breakout strength.
Volatility is expected. Narratives will shift rapidly. But with a clear plan and attention to structure, investors can navigate the turbulence toward what may be Ethereum’s final push before the next bear market begins.
